Picking up where I left off

Yesterday, I revisited a crochet work I started back in June.

I have a couple of project lying around that I started with full force and then just forgot about. But, now I promised myself to at least finish some of the projects I have been brooding on (do I smell a New Year’s resolution?). And the first one to earn this pleasure is this one.

Ha, you’re probably confused as to what the project is, right? But before I’ll tell you, I’ll show you a little mosaic of what inspired it.

If you hadn’t guessed, the reoccurring themes in the above mosaic are: (1) Hexagon; (2) (vintage) red/blue/white and (3) Bag. Combining these three we get a
Hexagon Vintage-feel Bag. ;)

So, the idea is to make a shoulder bag, using hexagon grannies in the colours red, dark blue and broken white.
For the construction of the bag, I’ll try to combine the patterns for these two bags pictured below, because I like the arrangement of the hexagons in the left bag and I also like the idea of a flap to close the bag.

The left bag is a design that appeared in the issue of Crochet Today! of March/April 2009; while the right bag is an original design by FleurDesPrairy on Ravelry.

Now, although I liked the design of both bags, I wasn’t completely convinced with the design of the hexagon tile itself. So I picked a hexagon design from another pattern, namely this Hexagon Boot Slippers.

When I picked up the project yesterday, I counted I had already made 11 hexagons, and according to my patterns I will be needing 30 hexagons.
The first thing I did was make a full hexagon, to get myself re-acquainted with the pattern. And then I crocheted the hearts of the remaining hexagons I will be needing.

So, now hopefully I will persevere and finish the remaining hexagons and start the daunting task of bringing it all together. I’m not at all sure if the combining of the two patterns will work out. In my mind it does, but real life often deviates from my mind ;) .

And then, once the bag is finished, crochet-wise, I will need to line it. I think a bag like that deserves lining.
I’ve never sewn before, so that’s something I’m a little scared of doing. I can just imagine it: I finally managed to finish this huge project, and then completely ruin it by doing something wrong with the lining :? .
Buuuuut, that’s something to worry about later…First, the crochet :D

  1. wow i think that bag will be stunning!
